Along with this exquisite sensitivity comes fragility. The skin on the backs of our hands contains only a few sebum (oil) ducts, while the palms of our hands contain zero!

The natural pH of healthy skin is mildly acidic, while most soaps are highly alkaline. So every time you wash your hands, you’re upsetting your skin’s ideal pH balance (between 4.5 and 5.5). This disruption of pH makes it more difficult for your skin to defend itself against irritants and damage, especially because your hands contain so little natural sebum, the soothing, smoothing lipid that forms a mildly acidic barrier between you and the outside world. Hand-sanitizer is generally even more alkaline than soap.

The inevitable aging process further thins the skin, making hands more vulnerable and surface issues more visible.

Most moisturizers contain petroleum. Our plant-based hand crème formula does not.

And here’s why: petroleum is a hydrocarbon which is extracted from non-renewable fossil fuels to make crude oil. The extraction and refining of petroleum contribute significantly to producing the greenhouse gases which now endanger our planet.

And if that isn’t close enough to home, petroleum cannot effectively nourish or moisturize your skin, because it’s simply an occlusive, meaning that it coats the skin, like a raincoat.

How it works:

At the heart of our formula is Palmarosa, sometimes called the palm rose because of its citrus-rose fragrance when fact it’s a member of the lemongrass family. Native to India, this aromatic plant has been used in Ayurveda for centuries to ease the symptoms of eczema, as well as myriad other uses. We selected it as the foundation for our hand crème for its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant properties. Unlike many aromatic essential oils, Palmarosa does not sensitize or irritate the skin. And an added plus: aromatherapists also value this plant for its mood-lifting, fatigue-fighting qualities.

• Our key ingredient Golden Jojoba Oil works as a botanical liquid wax that penetrates quickly to deliver Vitamin E and nurturing Omegas to support depleted cells. Golden Jojoba Oil closely bio-mimics natural human lipids, so skin assimilates it easily.

• Water-binding Lecithin found in rapeseed and sunflower oils, along with other safe, plant-based emollients, prevent water loss and evaporation to help skin maintain precious moisture reserves.

• Yeast-based active Pullulan fights free radical damage and strengthens skin’s natural microbiome, for faster cell turnover.
